Programme Structure

The M.A. (Environment & Development) programme includes nine 4-credit core courses and several specialized electives (of 2 or 4 credits each, totaling 18 credits over third and fourth semesters). In addition a graded internship of 2 credits (during the summer) and dissertation research of 8 credits (during fourth semester) are included as field practicum. The total number of credits to be completed is 64 over the two years of the programme.

The first semester provides introduction to basic concepts in ecology, development, the social science of environment, and research methods. The second semester continues to focus on conceptual tools, research methods  and skills from diverse areas of knowledge and practice. The second year (third and fourth semesters) provides students the opportunity to specialize in specific aspects related to environment and development that are of interest to them.
