Centre for Early Childhood Education and Development

The Centre for Early Childhood Education and Development (CECED) is a part of Ambedkar University, Delhi (AUD). This gives it ready access to professional and multi-disciplinary academic support, which in turn is expected to contribute to greater professional credibility for the field of Early Childhood Education and Development (ECED).

CECED’s mission is to contribute to the national goals of social justice and equity by advocating and promoting every child’s right to a sound foundation for life, through developmentally and contextually appropriate and inclusive programmes and to raise ECED to the forefront of policy formulation and effective programme implementation.

CECED aims at promoting systemic understanding of ECED, with focus on early learning. Its mandate is to expand the landscape of indigenous knowledge on ECED, narrow the gap between theory, research, policy and practice and provide evidence based, policy related advice and feedback on existing programs and provisions for children, across public, private and voluntary sectors.

CECED thus provides ‘a single window approach’ on ECED by serving as:

(a) a hub for documentation, knowledge creation and theory building through multi-disciplinary and multi-centric research and its dissemination
(b) a technical resource for creating a momentum for quality promotion and related capacity building for policy makers, professionals, practitioners and the community
(c) a clearing house and a repository of information/ data on ECED and a forum for networking with other national and international professional organisations.

CECED has a core team of experts that leads and coordinates its functions. It seeks to implement its programmes by engaging and coordinating with already existing resource institutions, to take advantage of their knowledge and experience base and to create a momentum for ECED through wider participation. Like all Centres of AUD, CECED maintains close links with the Schools within the University and draws on their technical support. Its programme planning and implementation is overseen by an Advisory Committee of distinguished academics and experts in the area of ECED and senior representatives of the government and national institutions.
